Reflections and Reactions

Our time here continues to be engaging, stimulating, and very warm and welcoming.  The biggest challenge is finding enough time to accept all the dinner and social invitations.  My workshops and presentations are very rewarding even if I’m up before dawn doing last minute preparations.
Tuesday, I facilitated a workshop on leadership with the student council representatives.  If these students represent the future of South Africa, the country will be in wonderful hands.  It is noted, however, that some of the student leaders are international students from surrounding countries and not all will stay in South Africa.  During a break in the workshop, I went to the restroom and found a box of condoms for students to freely take.  As you probably know, HIV/AIDS continues to be a huge problem here, and the University promotes safe sex in all possible ways.

Today is an open day at last with time for some reflection, relaxing, and regrouping.   This coming weekend, David and I are leaving Port Elizabeth for a trip along the beautiful Garden Route that hugs the Indian Ocean.  We will stay in Knysna (one of my favorite places) at a B & B and then return on Sunday so David can give his “sermon” at the township church.  You won’t want to miss the blog posting about that.

We decided today to change our return itinerary home and not go to Senegal as there is some political unrest there at the moment.  Instead, we will return home via Tunis, Tunisia.  Using frequent flyer miles, it wasn’t difficult to make the change, and we’re excited to be going there now.
Hope you enjoy the photos here that continue to tell the story.

Let's hope he catches one like this !

Security is a big issue here.  David stands by the gate that helps keep things safe.
